Very good reminder, and explanation. Hubby and I have recently begun working with a financial planner that we feel very comfortable with. But on a personal note, we are a little microcosm (example) of what you illustrate in this post. We personally own stock in three individual companies (finance, insurance, industrial). We have, for the most part, owned them for over 45 years. On any given day they perform wildly different. One up, the other two down, two up one down. Overall they are significantly up versus when we initially bought them.

Thanks for sharing, Suzie

And you make an important distinction... instead of saying you own 3 stocks, you said you own stock in 3 companies.

Thinking of yourselves as part owners in these 3 companies is a healthier long-term perspective vs simply thinking of them as "stocks" in my humble opinion

And you've likely seen some nice returns having owned them for more than 4 decades

I must (begrudgingly) give credit to an ex-boyfriend (obviously before meeting hubby) who convinced me to do my first stock purchase. He educated me on DRIPs, which I immediately signed up for. The wonderful thing about this DRIP is no matter if the stock is up or down I still win 😊 especially if it is down at the end of the quarter.

"DRIPping" your way to wealth!
